Summer Learning Journey Week 1 Day 3 Pt 2

This week is the first week of Summer Learning Journey. This is Week 1 Day 3 Activity 2.

Some pros are: 
  1. You get to see endangered animals that not a lot of other people would get to see. 
  2. You get to spend a whole lot of time with awesome animals.
  3. You get to work in the nature and not in a office. 

Some cons are:
  1. You can get hurt by animals.
  2. You see animals dying.
  3. You might have to move far away from your family.

I would absolutely want to be a DOC Ranger, because I love animals and being able to help species that could never be seen again. Plus you would be able to always be in nature. Anyways I would just love to work with animals. So Yes I would want to be a DOC Ranger.

Summer Learning Journey Week 1 Day 3 Pt 1

This week is the first week of Summer Learning Journey. This is Week 1 Day 3 Activity 1.

My beast is a half Lizard half Hawk. It is called Lizhawk. It is about the size of an adult cat, with green scales and a black beak. It also has two mammoth sized yellow wings. The smell was foul, If you were in one hundred feet of it all you could smell was dead rodents because that is all it ate. If a human would ever touch it they would feel coldness and moist blood. If you were to ever hear it then you would go deaf in a heart beat. It does several blood curdling screeches before attacking it's prey.

Summer Learning Journey Week 1 Day 2 pt 3

Hello this week is the first week of Summer Learning Journey. This is Week 1 Day 2 Activity 3.

Hello today we had to work out this maths problem:

Lets imagine that you are given a cactus for your birthday. To keep it alive you must give it 3 ml of water every day. Over one full year, how much water will you need to give your cactus plant?

So the way I would solve this is with Written Form. So I would start with a drawing like this
Then I would go 3 x 5=15 so I put the 5 down and carry the 1. Then I go 3 x 6= 18 + the 1 we carried on would be 19, so we put the 9 down and carry the 1. then we go 3 x 3=9 +1=10 but because this is the last number we can just put down the 10. so the end result is drum roll please *drum drum drum*

Summer Learning Journey Week 1 Day 2 pt 1

Hello today is the second day of Summer Learning Journey. This is week 1 day 2 activity 1

I would not want to go see Tāne Mahuta. I don't want to see it because although I do like playing outside I just don't think a tree would be fun to go to. Also if you spend a lot of money getting there all you would do is take a photo with it when you could use that money on more superior things. If I would go see something like a tree I would at least want to climb it.

Summer Learning Journey week 1 day 1 pt 2

Hello This is the first day of the Summer Learning Journey. this is the second activity for week 1 day 1.

My home town is Christchurch. In Christchurch it has two dazzling beaches. There are over 15 movie theaters to choose from, that is so much.  There are a lot of extraordinary places to visit, such as Botanical gardens. Also next to that is a museum that is so breathtaking.

  1. In New Zealand there are no snakes at all. 
  2. New Zealander love cars with 2.5 million cars for 4 million people making them the almost the highest car owner ship in the world.
  3. 30% of New Zealand is forest.
Those where my top three favourite facts from the website. But here are some facts that I like but are not on the website.
  1. New Zealand's capital city is Wellington(2018), in Wellington there is a building called "The Be-hive."
  2. The Prime Minister is Jacinda Ardern(2018), The Prim Minister is the head of a elective government.
  3. A New Zealander called A.J Hackett invented the Bungee Jump. It was in invented in 1979.

Summer Learning Journey Prep Session 2 pt 4

In the summer playing Basketball is one of the best things I love to do. I love to play Basketball with my friends at the park. I also like to play with my dad and big brothers. If I could play any game I wanted to with people in the school I would Totally go play Basketball with them. I also used to play for the school Basketball team when the season was on.

SLJ-Prep Lesson One

Today we were doing Summer Learning Journey. We had to find a country we liked and then answer some facts about it. I chose Japan as did a lot of other people. Here are the facts about it.

The Capital of Japan is Tokyo.
37,468,302 people live in Tokyo. Tokyo is on the Northern side of Japan. The most spoken Language in Tokyo is Japanese.The average weather in January for the Tokyo is 10° / 2°.

Four Maths Strategies.

Hello This past few days W.A.L.T Solve multiplication problem using different strategies. We had to solve 198 x 8 using: Place value, Written form, Doubling and halving as well as Compensation. we put all the results in a slide. Once we were done we made a DLO. W.A.L.T procedure to play hopscotch

How to play Hopscotch
By following the instructions you will be able to play Hopscotch

What you need:
Chalk
A clear spot to play
Stone
1 or 2 friends


  1. Check if you can draw chalk on the ground
  2. Go get 1 or 2 friends
  3. Draw some boxes like this
  4. Find a rock.
  5. Explain the rules to your friends
  6. First throw the rock on number one
  7. Hop on 2
  8. Hop on 3
  9. Jump on 4 and 5
  10. Hop on 6
  11. Jump on 7 and 8
  12. Then do that in reverse
  13. Once you are back on two pick up the stone
  14. Hop over 1
  15. Repeat for 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
  16. If you put down your hands or feet down it is the next person's turn
  17. If the stone does not go in the right square it is the other person's turn
  18. If you step on the line it is the other persons turns.
  19. When it's your turn again you start from the number you failed on.
  20. Once you get to 8 and back you win`

WALT Write a Procedure

This term we have been learning about writing procedures.
This is one I wrote enjoy.



How to make a cheese sandwich

By following these instructions you will be able to make a cheese sandwich.

Needs/Equipment

Knife
Plate
Cheese
Bread
Butter
Grater
Chopping Board
Ham           

Steps
(verb at the start of each instruction)

  1. Wash and dry your hands.
  2. Get a plate, chopping board and a knife.
  3. Get the bread, butter and the ingredients you want.
  4. Put 2 pieces Bread on the plate.
  5. Spread butter across one side of bread if you want put butter on both pieces of bread.
  6. Slice the cheese and ham (and any other ingredients) that you want in your sandwich, in the sandwich.
  7. Put one side of the bread onto the other side of the bread.
  8. Pick the sandwich up and eat it.

The Awful Plane Trip

Hello we have been working on hooking the reader in, creating writing with at least 4 pieces of action and being descriptive the whole way through. This is my story, I hope you like it.



My plane had just taken off. I was getting comfy. I was in first class. It was a one way flight to Tokyo, Japan. I got to eat chocolate, they offered me wine but I said, “No I will have grape juice.” But suddenly one of the planes engines made the loudest bang then the emergency masks came down.

I started to panic. I could hear people screaming. The pilot's voice appeared, “Please put on your masks, there is a slight issue.” For some stupid reason I looked out the window. The planes wing was covered in flames. That was when I started to panic. I must have hit my head at some point because I woke up not flying.

I stepped outside the plane my head was killing me. It smelt like a bomb had just gone off. All I could see was trees, all different type of trees. I looked behind myself that was when I saw the plane one wing floating in the water about 8 km away.  I could hear birds chirping, but the thing I could hear the most were people, people screaming and yelling for help.

I started to make my way into the forest. I just followed the screaming but the deeper into the forest I went the more it looked like someone was living there. I stepped around a tree but that was when I saw it. Four big men had tied up dozens of people, that was where the screaming was coming from. Then I saw the hand guns they were holding. I think one even had an AK-47. Suddenly I smelt rotting flesh. They… they were cannibals. I must have grasped because one of them yelled, “Get him!”

I woke up. I was tied up next to everyone else. How will I get out?  I will I survive, I thought to myself. I could not understand what they were saying but it sounded like they wanted to kill me. I was in a wooden cage. Next to me were animals, the rest of the people in my cage were not awake yet. The people did not know that I was awake yet.

Escape time. I started looking for a loose bar, a gap in the cage anything.  When everyone woke up we made a plan to get out of there. So here is the plan: First somebody plays sick when they come to get them out we all jump on the person steal his weapon and run. The plan was set in action.

Then all of sudden I was running with a handgun in my hand we did not know were we were running but we were running. I saw four rafts we had 4 groups of 5 on each raft. It was good to finally get to rest I think I had broken my shoulder blade. I felt intense stabs of pain in that area.  But then gunfire echoes round the sea. They were chasing us in sail boats. We had a head start so if we were quick we could lose them.

I saw an old boat up ahead with crates. We tied all the rafts together then 3 people started paddling at the front and 3 at the back. We all started yelling when we were close enough to the boat. Then someone fell off the raft.  A gunshot echoed across the waves. They were right behind us.

We climbed up onto the boat. They stopped shooting once we all got up but we lost about 3 people. Once we got to land I went straight to my house told my family what had happened. I needed about 2 months of counselling but I could finally talk about it with the world. So now I am here on this radio talk show. Well have a good night and thanks for listening.

Learning about Volcano's.

This week we have been learning about Volcano's. We Learnt about rocks from volcano's. We learnt about how they erupt. We even learned about the four deterrent layers of the earth.  Then once we had finished all the research we were able to make a volcano. after we made it we did a documentary about it then recorded erupting it.  I hope you enjoy this video and please feel free to comment and show other people. Painting a Picture in the reader's head.

WALT use our senses in our writing to paint a picture in the readers head.

Here is an example of my writing. Can you imagine the scenes in your head?


The soft sound of birds chirping filled the air. I could smell the fresh prey of a snake, rotting and filled with flies. Just before I stepped over a log with old moss on it I saw a snake slithering down the log. It looked ready to attack. I looked around and that was when I realized I had lost my travel guides. I noticed it was a python so I stepped off the log. My foot landed. It felt weird. Wait is that?  A….a BABY SNAKE! I quickly dodged an attempt to get on my neck, it was from the mother snake. I started to run. I caught up with my travel guides and told them what happened.

Erase a face.

The last piece of artwork we have done this term is inspired by Sebastien Del Grosso. He uses drawing on photos to make his art.  We have used as eraser in our photos and had to redraw part of our face. To help us with this we practiced our shading drawing shape drawing earlier in the term. Here is mine.

You can do two scratch card but the first one had to be something from your culture. The second one could be anything as long as it was school appropriate. This is my culture Scratch card.

Pop Art

We had to use bright colors.
But they had to be a solid color not a rainbow.  
The hardest part was tracing it.
We had to do four of the same portrait but different colors.
