Athletics Day!

Hello, This week we did Athletics Day. At our school we do Athletics.  At our school every one does all the events. The events are Sprints, Long dentist, Shot put, Discs, Long jump and high jump. I think  I did awesome because I gave it my all. I got 1st in Shot put. 2nd in Discus. 6th or 7th in High jump. 4th in Long jump. 5th in Sprints and 5th in Distance. My Favorite part of the day was when I won Shot put. My goal for next year is that I can come first in Discus. Well I think that Athletics is a really fun thing and good to keep fit.

Webby spiders

Introduction

Hello, Do you like creepy spiders? Well guess  what  - we are going to be talking about, spiders. We will be talking about were they live, what they eat. How deadly they can be, how big they get and what I think about them like if you should be scared of them or not.

Well first off we will be talking about the Funnel-web spider. it is one of most dangerous spider in the world. If  you are bitten the poison will kill you in 15 minutes if not assisted. They eat beetles, cockroaches, small lizards or snails.

Their bodies are 1 to 5cm big. It has hair on it’s body and it’s a dark black shade. They live in  the Eastern coast of Australia.  I think that they are cool if you watch them from a safe place. I also would not recommend trying to touch it. Next we will be talking about the Red Widow Spider.

The Red Widow Spider. This  also is a very poisonous spider. It is like a black widow but with red long legs. It has red spots on its abdomen.

They live in Southern Florida.  I could not find out if it would kill but I would think it probably would.

The baby spider eats flightless fruit flies, and pinhead crickets. The adults eat crickets, and other large insects. So if you see it just remember to watch form a safe place. I think That I would not like to see one but If i did I Would watch it from a safe place. Let's talk about the next spider.

A wolf spider has long leg and hair on it’s ademan. It looks scary enough but the fact is that there poison will not kill you! Although It would hurt if you got bit. They are extremely fast.  

They eat crickets, other spiders, ants, grasshoppers and many other types of small invertebrates. Large species will also take small lizards and frogs. It usually searches for its food at night.

I don’t think you should be scared of then but I would still not try to touch it. I would also watch from a safe place.  Now let's talk about the next spider.

Ah a Crab, oh it’s just a Crab spider.  The Crab Spider is big with long legs and a big ademan. It has little hairs of them. They have two things by their mouth which makes it look like crabs.

Crab spider don't make web to trap their food. they do make silk to get down from things though.

Some other name for the crab spider is Six eyed crab spider and Thomisidae. They have pretty cool names.

A Crab spider hunts and eats insects that visit flowers to feed on nectar. Honeybees, butterflies and flies are its favorite food.  

The Crab spider has crab like abilities such as being able to walk sideways and backwards.

I think Spider are exciting. I really like the way they walk and how they get their food.  Overall spiders are really amazing. Remember what I have taught you that it’s best to look at spiders and not touch them just incase they are poisonous like the Funnel Web spider.

End of Swimming

Hello a few weeks ago I made a swimming post. Well today we had our last day. This is what we did over the past few weeks. I said my goal was to get faster. well  I think I have achieved my goal. I'm going to be happy when we go back next year. For our last lesson we did the survival back-stork. We also jumped of the Diving bored. After we jumped of the Diving bored we had to Survival back-stork to the flags.The flags were about half way. I hope I enjoy it next year.

Today my class and I went swimming. We went to Canterbury swim school. I am in the deep pool. My friend Quaid is in the small pool. My instructor is a girl. She is good at teaching me and supporting me. My goal is to not stand up once when swimming to the end and back. My reflection is that it went very well because I have a good teacher. I think other people should go there. My goal is to swim faster and not be last every time. I Think I can achieve my goal this term.

Partly Cloudy

Partly Cloudy

Hello this week we have been writing about a video called Partly Cloudy. Here a link of the video: Link

It was dusk. The sun was setting. It was a nice night, the sky was glowing red. There were storks handing out babies, puppies and kittens to all the fluffy clouds. All was sunny and happy but then just below all the clouds was a storm cloud. It was a little sad at first but then it made a crocodile. To the cloud it was amazing. A stork came back tired. The bird went to pick up the crocodile but it launched onto the storks head. The cloud got the crocodile off after a few seconds. He put the crocodile in a white blanket. The stork flew off with the crocodile at the end of it’s beak.  The next animal was a hedgehog that looked like a sheep before it came out of the cloud. The bird went to grab the hedgehog. The bird got a big spike right on it’s hand.  The cloud took the hedgehog and once again put it in a white blanket. The bird came back with spikes all over it’s head. The cloud pulled off all the spikes and some feathers. The bird flew up to the happy and fun clouds the bad storm cloud was furious. Lighting was flashing out. Then when the cloud saw the bird get a gift rain came out it was crying. When the bird came back to the storm cloud the gift was a Football amour. The cloud laugh and smiled. Then the the bird got an electric el and the bird got a bit of a shock to see it.             

Ball Pit Writing

I was terrified at the McDonald's playground. I was at the highest slide in the world. Well that's what it felt like. I was going to go down the giant slide at the ball pit. I was too scared of how high it was I did not notice that no one had come back out of it.  Could I die? I hope not. All I could think was Am I going to go down? Without thinking I jumped into the slide head first.

As I am going down the slide it felt amazing. I was zooming through the slide. CRASH! I fall into the ball pit but instead of stopping I kept going. I stopped myself from falling any deeper. I was right on the edge. About to fall then I looked to my right and there was an old lollipop. I got scared and pulled it off.

I started climbing up the wall, the wall was as big as a skyscraper. A few minutes later I was half way but it still looked giant. I tried to put my hand on one of the balls but I almost fell. I was hanging on with one hand. A old plaster fell right on top of my face. I pulled myself up. There was a broken lollipop next to my a perfect shape to use as a climbing lollipop.  I started climbing again it took a long time but I finally got to the top. I was so happy I put the lollipop in my mouth.

Slime

Hello today we are making slime. My group is Tom, David, Anthony and me. We are doing this because we do a thing called marble day. To earn marble day you have to: sit up, do  you work on time and don't talk when other people are talking. Here is a link we are doing the borax slime.link

Piano

Hello this week we have been writing about a short film called piano. I hope you enjoy.

It was dark  there was one light shining down on me. I was slouched over getting ready to play the piano. My eyes were watering as I started playing my favorite tune. The start of the tune was bringing back memories. I imagined my wife sitting beside me. She died of old age a year ago. She kissed me then disappeared.

The next part of the song made me remember when I was in the war. It made me happy when I saw my old friend. Then I remembered he was about to get shot bang. I look over there he was on the ground. I grabbed him as he died.  

Then I was a kid getting a present. It was a toy horse. He was having fun running. He put his new toy down and sat next to me. We played the last part of the song together.

Exravaganza

This term our school has been doing past to present. our class did music mouth. we had to dance to them and lip sync. it was a lot of fun. I did slice of heaven. MY song was the 4th song performed.

The ridge

It was day I was in a boat going to a small island. There was lots of water and seals. When I got there I grabbed my bike and got on the island I started to bike.

I had to do lots of jumps because there were lots of rocks and boulders. I was doing lots of tricks. I was going up hill now so it was hard. When I got up the hill it was high and there were lots of rocks to get past but I was up to the challenge. Bump bump. It was hard but I was doing it.

When I got down There was a gate so I did a flip over it and that was really hard. I kept doing tricks and jumping over things like rocks. I went to the highest mountain on the Island and it was funky. I almost fall but I didn’t. It was really high but I was going to take the risk and go down fast!

I was going down fast but it was not stopping me. I bumped so much and it did not feel good it was covered in grass but it was still rocky. I got down to the ground it felt amazing.

Big Foot

W.A.L.T Create a model that shares something we have learnt about our mystery. Hello everyone welcome to my Big Foot Clay model. This term we have been learning about mysteries. This model is to show you how big Big Foot is next to a human. I hope you enjoy it. It took a long time to make. My personal comment is that I think it is good for me. I made this out  of modelling clay it took me two days to make. I worked alone for this.

This term we have been looking at a army video called Beyond The Lines. W.A.L.T write a narrative through the eyes of one of the soldiers or children.

• Think about how the men on the boat would have been feeling as they huddled on the boat on their way to their impending doom.
• Think about words to describe the battleground, what you see, smell, taste, hear. Try to use words that create the mood.
• Now…..Write a first person narrative through the eyes of one of the children or one of the soldiers.

My birthday school trip to Spencer Park

W.A.L.T Write an information report that informs the audience.

Success Criteria

• I use an opening statement that explains the subject of the report.

• The opening statement is followed by sentences that describe the event; what you saw, what you did, how you felt, what you learnt.
• Each paragraph focuses on a different aspect of the topic; travelling, the beach, the lagoon walk, playground.
• A general statement about the topic usually rounds off the report.

My birthday school trip to Spencer Park

On my birthday, Friday the 10th of March, Ako Ngatahi went to Spencer park. I was in group 4 n with Miss Scott and Whaea Heather. We got on the bus at about 9:15. The bus ride was noisy as everyone was excited. I sat next to my best friend Quaid on the bus.

When we go to Spencer park we played on the playground for 10 minutes. Then we started walking to the beach. At the beach we collected sea treasures. I got a lot of things. We were allowed by the water. I almost got a crab but I did get a star fish. For the sea treasure I got sticks and shells.

We then went on a big Lagoon walk. At the end of the Lagoon walk there was a bird hideout. Under the bird hide out there was a little tunnel.  

Then we got back and had lunch. Then we had a big play for like an hour. We all had fruit.

Lastly we got on the bus and arrived back at school. I learnt the white things in the bushes were spider nests. They build them to protect their babies until they grow up.  

The present

In the past weeks our class (Ako Ngatahi) were writing a short story about a video titled “The Present”. It was a story about a boy who got a present and it was a puppy. After he discovered that the puppy only had three legs.

Success Criteria

The present

I was playing video games on my xbox 360 when my mum came in and gave me a box. I opened the present. There was a puppy. Wow, I thought. But then I saw it had 3 legs. “Get lost” I said.
I was annoyed that my mum got me a puppy that had 3 legs just because I was missing part of my leg! It was creamy brown and white but it only had 3 legs and I had 1 leg.   

The dog did a silly thing. So I kicked it. Then it was being silly. How could I not love the puppy? It was being silly. So I started to like it, but I was playing video games again. After a while of him trying to play with me I decided to go outside with him. So I said “I’ll be outside mum.” Then I went and played outside with the puppy. I hope we are best friends forever! I wish I was never mean to the puppy. I think the puppy loves me.

Cyber Smarts DLO

On Thursday we went to the High School and someone called John Parsons. He  is an expert on Cyber Smart. It went for along time we watched a video about a girl who put her school name and gmail online. We learnt to never share your personnel information and ask to put someone online first but if it is in the public then you don't have to ask. It was really interesting.
